This course focuses on training CMA’s to be authorized in administering non-injectable medication, safely, legally, and accurately. These individuals usually work in Assisted Living Facilities, Skilled Nursing Facilities, Nursing Homes, and Group Homes. CMA must complete the NJDHSS-approved medication aide training and pass the competency examination

In order to be eligible to take this course a student must be:

1. NJ Certified as a Certified Nursing Aide or Certified Homemaker Health Aide
2. Have a current criminal background check.
3. Has a good standing with the Board of Nursing and the NJ DHSS
4. Must complete 3 medication passes under the direction of an approved CMA RN or Pharmacist Trainer

Course Objectives:

1. Identify the ethical and legal implications of a medication aide
2. Identify what is prohibited by law for medication aides to perform and medications to administer
3. Describe the basic role and responsibilities of a medication aide
4. Learn all necessary skills for job opportunities in nursing facilities, skilled nursing facilities, correctional institutions, assisted living facilities, and ICF/IID home

Course Outline:

Upon the completion of this course, the students are expected to be knowledgeable in:

• Workplace safety
• Proper Administration of medication
• Drugs affecting the body’s systems
• Different types of Antibiotics
• Drugs affecting the eyes, ears, and skin
• Pediatric patients
• Care planning assistance

This class can ONLY be taken in person and will take a minimum of 30 hours or one whole week. We will be offering daytime weekly classes and eventually will provide evening and weekend options. Stay Tuned!
