Home Health Aides help care for physically or mentally ill, injured, disabled or infirm individuals who are confined to their homes or living in residential care facilities. They may also provide daily care services to people with disabilities who work outside the home. Home Health Aides work under the supervision of a nurse who may or may not be readily available. They also work closely with family members in the provision of care. Both men and women can work as home health aides.
You can become a certified home health aide in 4 easy steps 1. Enroll in a CHHA Training program approved by the NJ Board of Nursing 2. Get Certified- After you receive your training, you’ll be eligible to take the certification exam, which comprises written and practical skills portions. 3. Pass the exams and secure a certificate and letter of Course Completion from the training school 4. Submit your application to the Board of Nursing. Complete the prescribed requirements and do the fingerprint-based background check.
You can make use your valid CNA license to get certified as CHHA by taking the CNA-CHHA Bridge Program. The conversion course focuses on personal care services in the home setting, cultural diversity, and foundations for a safe client environment, nutrition, housekeeping, concepts of home care, and caring for the aged ill client.
Documents required by the NJ Board of Nursing include a 2×2 passport photo (which we provide at our facility), birth certificate or passport, citizenship documents (if it applies), and a marriage license or divorce documents (only if the student had a name change) plus the $80 BON fee for the fingerprint-based background check. Students have 4 weeks to complete the online portion of the program for the 76-hour and 1 week for the conversion program. Additional time on the student portal will result in additional fees of 100.00 for another 4-weeks access to maintain a slot on the student portal. If the student is in jeopardy of falling behind and requires additional time, we encourage them to reach out to the instructor by phone or email to avoid account deactivation and additional charges.Students will receive an email reminder weekly to finish the Online portion of the program to ensure that they will accomplish it on or before the due date.CLINICAL: Care Training Academy requires 48 hours’ notice to reschedule clinical/skills days. If the student does not provide 48-hours’ notice or fails attend a skills session without notification, it will result in a $100.00 rescheduling fee.
Unfortunately, if you miss a day of class and are a no-call no-show, you must pay $100 to get placed back on the schedule. After 60 days of no completion, you must pay for the entire course over again as per NJ Board of Nursing Guidelines. If you are sick or have an emergency and you have called out ahead of time (leaving a message if no one answers), we do allow a one-time reschedule but it must be rescheduled within 2 weeks or a $100 reschedule fee will have to be charged.
